How SettleThat works

A verified payment supports one Option and permanently changes its public score. Supporters do not receive money back based on the ranking. Paying means you agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

How is a Pick different from a Backing?

A Pick is free and records your current side. It is private unless you explicitly share it, and you can change or withdraw it while the Battle is open. A Backing records a separate public financial commitment. Picking never requires payment, and Backing never changes your Pick. Aggregate Picks count known participant identities, not proven unique people.

What is a Backing?

A successful payment supports one Option and raises its permanent scoreboard amount. Each completed payment creates one Backing record. Repeated payments count separately, including anonymous Backings.

How much can I back?

Backings are whole US dollars, from $3 through $25,000 in self-service Dodo Payments checkout. Larger requests are reviewed without charging; approval produces a checkout link for manual delivery.

Where does the money go?

SettleThat keeps the payment. Approved creator and affiliate commissions are separate SettleThat business expenses, not ownership of Backing payments. Nothing goes to the company, person, or opinion named as an Option.

Do I get anything back?

A Backing is an expression of conviction. It creates public score and recognition, never a financial return for the supporter.

What happens after I pay?

A completed payment is what records the Backing. The scoreboard moves only after verified payment confirmation. After that, the payment is generally final: change of mind, or your Option no longer leading, is not a reason for a refund.

We refund or fix a charge for a duplicate or wrong amount, a payment that never became a Backing, a charge for a rejected Option proposal, a Battle we cancelled without delivering the scoreboard, or an unauthorized-charge claim we confirm with Dodo. Where a mandatory consumer right cannot be waived, we honor that right.

A card-network dispute or chargeback can still reverse the score. Commissions stay pending for 60 days.

What does “Leading” mean?

Only that an Option has more valid dollars backed. It is not a claim of truth, quality, popularity, endorsement, or an objective winner.

How do Battle formats differ?

Two visible Options use the Head-to-head experience. Three to ten use the Open ranking experience. Standard Battles remain open-ended; the format follows the visible Option count.

How do open rosters work?

A signed-in user may propose an Option without being charged. After review, approval reserves a roster slot for seven days. The Option joins the public ranking only after the proposer completes a verified Backing.
