Privacy Policy

Effective August 31, 2026. Last updated August 31, 2026.

This Privacy Policy explains how SettleThat (https://settlethat.lol) collects, uses, and shares information when you visit the site, create a battle, sign in, or pay for a Backing. It sits alongside our Terms of Service.

Who is responsible

The controller for personal data processed through the Service is the operator of settlethat.lol.

What we collect

We collect only what we need to run the scoreboard, take payment, stop abuse, and understand traffic.

  • Account data. If you sign in, we store your handle, connected X username and profile photo when you use X, email from Google when that provider supplies one, and session. Sign-in is handled by Google and X through Better Auth.
  • Checkout and Backing data. Battle, Option, amount, optional public handle, receipt identifiers, and payment confirmation identifiers from Dodo Payments.
  • Payment data. Card details and billing identity are collected by Dodo Payments, not by us. Dodo Payments may send us confirmation that you paid and an amount.
  • Affiliate attribution. A signed cookie may remember a referral code from a shared link.
  • Technical data. Standard request data such as user agent, referrer, and IP address may be processed by our host and analytics tools.
  • Messages you send us. If you email a notice or a privacy request, we keep that correspondence as needed to respond and to keep a legal record.

Cookies

Sign-in cookies are strictly necessary. The affiliate cookie is used only to attribute a later Backing. Analytics, if enabled, may use PostHog, Plausible, or DataFast. We do not use cookies to serve advertising.

Why we use this data

  • Contract. To take payment, record a Backing, show the scoreboard, and provide the Service you asked for.
  • Legitimate interests. To keep the board fair, measure visits, debug outages, and defend legal claims.
  • Legal obligation. To keep tax, accounting, and complaint records where the law requires it.

Public scoreboards

Battle titles, Option names, scores, supporter counts, and optional public handles are public. Anyone can see them, including search engines. A public handle that is an X account may open that profile, and we show the X logo next to it so the source is clear. Do not show your handle if you do not want that information shown.

Who we share data with

  • Dodo Payments - checkout and payment confirmation.
  • Google and X - only if you choose to sign in with those providers.
  • Hosting, database, and edge infrastructure (currently including Vercel and Postgres) so the site can run.
  • Analytics providers you see configured on the site, such as PostHog, Plausible, or DataFast.
  • Professional advisers, authorities, or a buyer of the Service if we must share data to comply with law, enforce the Terms, or transfer the project.

We do not sell your personal data. Some processors may be outside your country. Where we rely on them, we use appropriate safeguards.

How long we keep it

  • Public Backings stay on the scoreboard and may remain in backups or activity history after a battle is archived.
  • Payment identifiers and amounts are kept as long as needed for accounting, tax, fraud, and dispute handling.
  • Account and session data last while your account exists, plus a limited time in backups.

Your rights

If the GDPR or similar law applies to you, you may ask us to access, correct, delete, or export personal data we hold about you, to restrict or object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent where we rely on it.

Email contact@settlethat.lol. We may need enough information to find your data. Public scoreboard amounts are not made private just because they appear on SettleThat.

Children

The Service is for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has used the Service, contact us and we will delete the data we can identify.

Changes

We may update this policy when the Service or the law changes. The date at the top of this page is the current version. If a change is material, we will post the updated policy here.
